tried looking at the post in internet explorer. Still doesn't play, but, silver lining, the view count is accurate in that browser!

the video i uploaded was h.264 if that makes any difference. i don't know a whole lot about fomats/codecs and whatnot.

I downloaded an mp4 from imgur and reposted it and the original plays in the embedded player but the repost doesn't, so who the fuck knows

well you can at least click one of the "embedded" videos and it'll take you to an imgur page where it plays, but it's not even the full 720p version. oh well

so I downloaded the gif of the video I'm messing around with, which took the filesize from 4 megs up to 70, and also added a bunch of really visible dither noise. Then I reuploaded the gif, and tested it in the embedded player, and it plays fine. Except that it obviously still has all that dither noise. Oh, and the mp4 they made out of the huge reuploaded gif is 11 megs lol imgur is a damn mess

for the record, the one I've been testing this stuff on is this:

as one last thing i tried "publishing" the video on imgur which idk makes it so people can downvote it and whatnot. doesn't seem to have made a difference

if I try to download your vid using their "download this post" button I get a corrupted file; if I use the media downloader firefox extension that I use to rip youtube vids then I get a file that works, and vlc says it's 720p, so I think all of this is probably an issue on the back end for them. Hopefully they get it cleared up soon so you can post more cool stuff

thanks for checking it out. i can still post regular old gifs but being able to post a higher quality vid without the huge filesize of a gif would be nice. and this "whole fight in 8 seconds" one is fast-moving enough that being able to view a real vid of it is definitely an improvement over the gif.

idk if you noticed jugular, but the gif of hit punching jiren was pretty significantly edited down for length. other than landing that one punch he got wrecked the whole episode, so i wanted to make something that made him look good.

until they get that thing fixed, the only way to get stuff to play is to have photoshop/ae/whatever write out to a massive uncompressed .gif and upload that; imgur will convert it to mp4 on their end without loss of quality, or at least none that I noticed at first glance*

It's kind of a hassle, but as long as the gif is less than imgur's 200 MB limit it will at least work right in forums posts on here


*the size of mp4s that imgur makes is inconsistent. There are a few possible explanations for that. I'm going to mess around with it some and see whether they're doing anything that affects the actual pixel values, and if so, by how much. I can check it out for this particular animation too if you want, just upload the mp4 you originally made to dropbox or something
