As you know I've started work on my magnum opus "Fear and Loathing in Hell: Scenes from the Orgy of Death and Decapitation that is the Eternal Life of Reginald Bartholomew Skullperson III and the Chronicles of what is to Become the Papal Genocide", and I wanted to introduce you all to Reginald's sidekick
Rex Maulington, Hellhound Extraordinaire
Rex is a 8-feet tall canine who was sent to the Hell after he died during an attempted decapitation. In his mortal days he was the pet of the great necromancer Lothar, who would perform rituals on the skulls to acquire the arcane wisdom within. Lothar trained Rex as a skullcollector when he found Rex as a pup., and Rex has been fiercely loyal to Lothar ever since. Even now that he is no longer serving his master, he is still collecting skulls for him, hoping to one day return to the mortal plane with the skulls he has collected in Hell. He is pictured above with his current collection.
Rex first met Reginald when he was scavenging for skulls down in the 7th circle. At first he wanted to harvest Reginald's skull and add it to his collection, but when he saw the hole in Reginald's head he decided not to. You see, Rex sympathized with Reginald because of his skull damage. Rex' skull was cracked when he was hit in the head with a mace during the decapitation attempt in which he was killed, and when he saw Reginald he regarded him as a kindred spirit. Because of their shared fate of being damned with a damaged skull, the two bonded and Rex agreed to help Reginald in his quest to kill the popes. In return Reginald agreed to give Rex the skulls of the popes. For the papal skulls are some of the most powerful arcane vessels in Hell, due to the capacity of wisdom they hold and the density of the darkness within. Reginald also made some adjustments to Rex' skeleton for maximum killing power: steel claws and spinespikes, as well as a morningstar on his tail.
