OK, here's some insight into the sort of work I do on these.
This was a gif where Goku kicks Buu and then Buu goes flying. In the show, Goku pauses after kicking, but I wanted to shorten that so that the shot of Buu flying backwards can better carry the momentum from Goku’s kick.
Instead of having Goku stay in place, I have him immediately “teleport” out as he’s finishing the kick, and reduce the number of times he flickers as he’s disappearing.

And here’s the edited version I used for the gif, also at half speed. Yeah, I sped the kick up too, but that’s not the important part:
This involved a fair amount of work going in and removing individual frames so that Goku would disappear quickly and smoothly.

Shortening things also allows me to fit more action into a gif with a low file size, but the main point is to get things to move with a nice flow. Eliminating any pause in the motion is key if you want to show something happen in only a few seconds.
