web snap converts pixels values to web-safe colors, whatever that means. I'm sort of surprised it reduced the filesize. Matte is for making the edges of a non-rectangular image look more smooth against the background of a webpage or whatever that has a known, solid background color the gif will be on top of. So messing with that won't help with filesize optimization for the stuff you're doing.

Try dialing the transparency setting back by 3-5% and see if that changes anything

Sometimes I get surprising results re: filesize. For example there are some images where i can drop the dither to 99% or raise lossy compression to 1% and the file size drops like a rock. I've occasionally seen lossy compression increase the file size. I had one where turning off transparency optimization cut the file size in half.

Thanks for the info on what web snap does. All I know is that for a couple pics, I was able to raise it a bit and get a file size improvement without hurting the image quality much.

I think we lost them all in the xenforo 2.0 migration and sib had to manually readd them so he added a few and got tired and gave up
